Noise Gate
Noise Gate
I'd like Audacity to have a built-in Noise Gate effect, preferably with real-time preview and optional side chain*. It's a common and versatile effect that is useful in many use cases.
* The "side chain" would normally be off, but may be enabled for either:
1) Using another track as the gate trigger
2) Using a filtered version of the track (or another track) as the gate trigger.
3) The side chain filter should include at least: high pass, low pass, band pass.

BUMP
So are you going to write this effect, or write a proposal Steve?

I may well do when I have time, but meanwhile I'd like it to be logged on whatever feature request tracking/logging system is in use.waxcylinder wrote:So are you going to write this effect

Re: Noise Gate
Once again, nothing can be logged on Wiki Feature Requests unless it has votes for the feature.steve wrote:I may well do when I have time, but meanwhile I'd like it to be logged on whatever feature request tracking/logging system is in use.waxcylinder wrote:So are you going to write this effect
Feature Requests has
So given Steve will already have his vote counted in the 14 votes so far, there is nothing to add, except one vote for the extra detail about real-time and side-chain, which will not increment the 14 count.
Noise gate (not noise removal, just a simple binary gate) (14 votes)
- A Nyquist noise gate plug-in is available here.

Re: Noise Gate
Please note that my vote is for "a built-in Noise Gate effect, preferably with real-time preview and optional side chain".
Of course I do like the Noise Gate plug-in, but as a Nyquist plug-in, neither real-time preview or optional side chain are possible, so I am requesting these additional features.

Re: Noise Gate
I'll revise my feature request to make it clearer what new feature I'm requesting:
I'm requesting Audacity to ship with a Noise Gate effect that has real-time preview and a side chain option.

Re: Noise Gate
Yes indeed, now there is a Nyquist plugin by definition the vote must be for a shipped effect. IIRC you asked for a shipped effect before then wrote the plugin as a standby.steve wrote:I'll revise my feature request to make it clearer what new feature I'm requesting:

We can only guess whether the other voters are satisfied with the plugin or want a shipped effect, but it seems to me it would give an erroneous impression to downgrade the request to 1 vote (yours). Don't you think so?
Here is what it says after my update: http://wiki.audacityteam.org/wiki/Featu ... noise_gate. Will that do?
