Opus export

Please provide direct export/import to opus format.

https://www.opus-codec.org/

If you have the command line codec installed, you can export as opus using the “external program” option: https://manual.audacityteam.org/man/exporting_to_an_external_program.html

I have added your “vote” (logged your support) for adding native (built-in) support for Opus. Your vote has pushed this feature request into the “highest rated” group.

Done.

Can you please add a +1 for me too?

I also think this feature is very important. Opus has become the standard format for lossy audio encoding for me.

Done.

Not just a fearure request - we have a bug logged fir this

https://bugzilla.audacityteam.org/show_bug.cgi?id=2166
Opus export fails - cannot open codec

It currently sits with a lowish P4 rating - but on the basis of the number of votes I’m gonna up that to P2

Peter.

I’ve just been QA testing a new export available directly from the Export Audio and Export Multiple commands for export to OPUS (OggOpus)

And I can report that so far its looking good. Works on Windows and Linux but is sadly not (yet) available on Mac. So expect to see this in the upcoming 2.4.0 in early May.

Wow! This would be a super awesome new feature to have at Audacity. Really impressive!

I am not sure this is the correct place to post this but how can users add new features to the roadmap and is there any way that users can influence order and priority of the items there as well?

Thank you for your time.
Victor

Glad you’re so pleased by this Victor :sunglasses:

+1 for me :exclamation:
Even if the external call from @steve/@baudav works just fine… I think it would be nice to have a native export option. For one, Telegram enables inline playing of an attached audio snippet only if it is Opus. (if it is Vorbis, it will only let you download)

This was fixed in 2.4.2 current release for both Linux an Windows - it still does not work on Mac (we have a bug logged for that).

Terrific news! Waiting for my distro to catch up…!

…and another vote, for newbies like me, in “export as” ?
First came across .opus when I downloaded a WhatsApp audio clip. If you believe the blurb (hype?) it offers considerable advantage.
Fortunately I found the clip plays in Pulsar player on Android without any tinkering.
Thanks

Since you are on W10 if you download the latest version of Audacity 2.4.2 you will have Opus Export

Download from here: Audacity ® | Download for Windows

And see the Audacity Manual: Opus Export Options - Audacity Manual
