Enterprise defaults

Post by Richard May » Thu Nov 24, 2022 9:23 am

It would be good if there was a way to configure the defaults for multiple users.

I suggest there is a simple way to achieve this by allowing admins to save a audacity.cfg in the Audacity program files folder. Then if when the software is launched, there is no audacity.cfg in the Application Data\Audacity folder, the software will copy the audacity.cfg from the program files folder if it exists.

This simple change would allow us and many other schools to pre-configure lots of settings (particularly switching off auto-update) without having the configure our networks to copy the audacity.cfg to all users' application data folders in advance.

If you make a folder called Portable Settings inside of the Audacity folder, Audacity will look for the cfg files in there (or create them if there are none): https://manual.audacityteam.org/man/por ... acity.html
