Problems with trim

Post by dzmijewski » Sun Mar 29, 2009 9:56 pm

I'm trying to create a ringtone by following the tutorial in the wiki. I select the section of the mp3 that I want to keep and stop playback as directed by the tutorial. As soon as I stop playback, the selection tool expands to include the entire track.

Can someone tell me what I'm doing wrong?

You can use the "Pause" button (or the "P" key) to pause playback, then click on the track at the current cursor position to select that as the playback point, then press "stop" (Spacebar) to change from pause to stop. The new playback position should now be at the point where you clicked and you can use "Shift + Click/drag Mouse" to select the region that you require.

(You can also use "Shift + right/left cursor keys" to expand the selected region, and "Ctrl + Shift + right/left cursor keys" to contract the selected region).

If I'm following your suggestion correctly, I can not hear the playback as I am selecting the area I wish to trim. I want to trim this area in an exact position so when the ring tone loops it sounds good.

Get it as close as possible by eye, then:

1) Space > to play it.
2) "Shift + right/left cursor keys" to expand the selected region, and "Ctrl + Shift + right/left cursor keys" to contract the selected region.
3) Go to step (1)

To change the zoom level you can use the zoom buttons or if you have a wheel mouse, Ctrl+Mouse Wheel.
