Slackware 12.2 build

I'm a long-time Slackware user, new to Audacity.
I'm building from audacity-minsrc-1.3.7 on a clean Slackware 12.2 install.
Also grabbed libsndfile-1.0.19 and wxWidgets-2.8.9. Some thrashing revealed that the
wxWidgets needed 'configure --enable-unicode' to satisfy the audacity configure (naive
build yields only 'ansi' config in wxWidgets).
This initial build and install appears to succeed. But the machine is currently headless
and I get this error :

(audacity:21424): Gdk-WARNING **: Connection to display localhost:10.0 appears to be untrusted.
Pointer and keyboard grabs and inter-client communication may not work as expected.
The program 'audacity' received an X Window System error.
This probably reflects a bug in the program.
The error was 'BadAtom (invalid Atom parameter)'.
(Details: serial 1546 error_code 5 request_code 20 minor_code 0)

Other X11 apps seem to work with remote display so I'm a bit stumped. I'll probably scrounge
an extra monitor for testing but would appreciate any clues on this.

I dug out an old CRT and verified that this audacity build works on a directly-connected console, so I probably have other issues with the remote X11 setup... will report back if I can sort it out. I have (at least) one more iteration planned to add LIBTWOLAME. I'm liking what I see; now I can rip those thirty Zappa albums!
