In Audacity 1.3.5 on Linux (using Gentoo, installed via the ebuild), Audacity locks up when a selection of the audio is made and an effect to be applied is selected, but then subsequently cancelled (I.E., cancel in the effect dialouge is clicked). The GUI becomes unresponsive and greyed out, and the window will not respond to attempts to exit except xkill or killing the audacity process. Some information about the USE flags (configuration options for compilation, for the uninitiated; options with a minus before them are options that weren't used) used for audacity:
Installed versions: 1.3.5(17:19:12 08/30/08)(alsa id3tag ladspa libsamplerate mp3 soundtouch twolame vamp vorbis -flac -jack)
Any workarounds would be appreciated

Don't use the cancel button after preview - use "OK" and then "Undo" (Ctrl+Z).
In the latest alpha version, there have been some changes to the "preview" function that I am hoping will fix the problem, but I've not tried it yet (still using 1.3.5 beta and waiting for 1.3.6 beta to be released).
