If you move the AUP without moving anything else, that's usually the end of the world.

You can open 1.2 audacity projects in audacity 1.3, but not the other way. Between different 1.3 audacity versions I'm not sure which is the backward compatibility.

Oops Apologies for the mistake.

As far as I'm aware, the current 1.3 version of Audacity can correctly open projects made by all previous versions (at least as far back as Audacity 1.2.
Of course old versions of Audacity cannot be expected to support new features that did not exist when the old software was written, and as bgravato wrote, Audacity 1.2.x cannot open projects that have been saved by Audacity 1.3.x.
