Hello,
i'm running 1.3.5b with Slackware 12.1 using KDE Desktop.
Entering label text is a strain and can sometimes only be done by modifying the text inside the exported labels file.
The reason for this are conflicts between shortcut charactes (j, z, 8, 9 ...) and letters meant as text.
Sometimes it isn't possible to type 'z', because it's considered as a shortcut, even in label edit mode.
It's a bad idea to use plain characters as shortcuts or you must be very careful to be sure to be in the right entering mode. Also together with 'Shift' - these characters remain plain Uppercase. Maybe it's not recognized as lowercase inside the software- for example also 'j' behaves as 'J' shortcut when typing it into a label text.

Re: Shortcuts conflicts with entering label text
If you don't like these default shortcuts you van either remove them or change them via you Audacity Preferences - go to Edit>Preferences>Keyboard
This should sort out the problem for you,

Re: Shortcuts conflicts with entering label text
Thank you for the hint, this works fine for J K and Z.waxcylinder wrote:If you don't like these default shortcuts you van either remove them or change them via you Audacity Preferences - go to Edit>Preferences>Keyboard

But because of some unknown reasons i was unable to enter the numbers 8 and 9. These aren't defined anywhere i can change them, nor do i know about defined shortcuts for the numbers. Audacity tried to initiate some operations i didn't identify.
In general there should be some more strict separation of different editing modes to avoid those conflicts.
While a text field is active for editing, shortcuts shouldn't be recognized at all.

Re: Shortcuts conflicts with entering label text
Resetting the keyboard shortcuts to "Default" seems to have fixed it (temporarily?) for me.

Re: Shortcuts conflicts with entering label text
This has been now fixed on Mac, but it wasn't reproducible on Linux with CVS as of early January 2009. If anyone can build from CVS HEAD on Linux and test it, that would be great.antur wrote:i'm running 1.3.5b with Slackware 12.1 using KDE Desktop.
