Apparently Audacity supports JACK?
I can't seem to enable the JACK backend at all. I've tried compiling myself and using Debian and Ubuntu binary versions but haven't had any luck with any of them.
Has anyone else got this working? If so, mind explaining how?
Thanks!
Mike

Re: Audacity JACK support?
Audacity 1.3.4 on Ubuntu 8.04 almost worked with Jack.
Well, it did work with Jack, but only as long as no other audio applications were running (which is one of the main reasons for using Jack).
Jack is still a very long way from version 1.0, and Audacity 1.3.x is beta software, and Portaudio and Jack have had problems, but hopefully it will come together some day soon.

Re: Audacity JACK support?
Cool. Can you describe step-by-step exactly what you did to get it running?
I can't seem to get anything JACK-like to appear anywhere in the interface. How would I see if it's possible?

Re: Audacity JACK support?
I think Jack is of little usefulness for Audacity at the moment because it is just too difficult to get it running reliably, and there are no noticeable performance benefits over ALSA, but if you want to give it a go, this was my post about it at the time:

I don't think that proper support for Jack will be that far away, and it'll be rockin' good news when it comes.

Re: Audacity JACK support?
My problem is I have an input on my soundcard that I can only access really using JACK.
I don't see JACK as an option for input/outputs and this is in a version I compiled with JACK support (1.3.5) and links against libjack so I dunno what is going on.

Re: Audacity JACK support?
Still had no luck so solved the problem that required JACK a different way:

I had the same problem with 1.3.5 - and no, I dunno what's going on either. (It worked as described in the linked post with 1.3.4, but 1.3.5 does not want to knowmikearthur wrote:I don't see JACK as an option for input/outputs and this is in a version I compiled with JACK support (1.3.5) and links against libjack so I dunno what is going on.

I hope you are able to pop into this forum from time to time - there's a marked shortage of any Linux expertise here.
