Playback is 63% slow

Post by david-emm » Mon Jan 31, 2011 1:51 am

I have Audacity 1.3.12 (beta) installed on a Acer Travelmate 2201 laptop running Ubuntu 10.10. I have made one recording from a cassette that was perfect. Now every tape I try to record seems to record OK and I can listen to the recording as it is happening and watch the display window adding data but when I play back the speed is some 63% of the original and the lady singer turns into a deep bass. I have tried playing at 1.57 speed and this is about right (but not quite). I have un-installed Audacity, deleted .audacity-data, and reinstalled for the same result. I'm recording stereo. 44100Hz, 32 bit float. I've tried other tapes with the same result.

Strange that the first recording was OK then problems.

Any help is appreciated.

How about the length of the recording? Check the time at the end on the top timeline bar. Is the recording time correct?

Try exporting to WAV and listen on other program. It can be a playback issue and not a recording issue. Do you still have the first recording you made? If you open it in audacity and play it does it play ok?
Include as much details as you can in your post (Audacity version, Operating System, Equipment used, etc).
Please post your question in the appropriate forum (regarding audacity version and operating system).
