Let's make this the "Sticky" - How to take a 6 (or more) channel file and make it into a format that can be played back on a "Home Stereo", "Home Theater", "Multichannel-audio PC", or maybe even a portable multimedia player (Yea, I am wishing...)
I have 6 channels, named FR, FL, C, RR, Rl, LFE. There may also be Cr, CL, or RH, LH, or more if you are into ambisonics. Maybe even 13.2 if you are so inclined. But for now there's 6 discrete channels.
All are normalized, post-processed to perfection, LFE is low-passed, C is high-passed, and everything seems OK. Now, how to output it?
I can get a number of external encoders (Surcode has a great DTS encoder, but it's not cheap, nor Linux friendly.) and there are a bunch of unknown Win apps that I could use with WINE, (or even worse, to boot to Win), but with ffmpeg, I can get an AC3 file and also a multichannel WAV file.
How to get those (or other output/export options) burned into a DVD or CD. {Oh, and yes, some are at 48K, some are at 44.1K, some may even be 96K... Of course, it's only a 9% slow down to take a 48 into a 41, correct?}
There's info all over the Web going back to 2005, but for us Audacity 1.3.x users, what's the "State of the Art" in 2011 to get a multichannel recording onto polycarbonate or silicon?
Thank you!

I was just thinking that this could be a topic for those who use more than 2 channels to post their results and experiences with Audacity in the realm of 4 to 8 channel (and beyond) sound. Also techniques, tips and tests.
I relayed my use and details as a reference and posed some questions I have encountered myself.

Just rediscovered my old post - anyone out there with 4 or more ears?
