Hi,
trying to record an audio stream (webcast) that's currently playing through the browser.
The FAQ http://audacityteam.org/help/faq?s=reco ... =streaming says to set the
device on the mixer toolbar to "wave out" or "stereo mix", but my compile doesn't seem to even
have the drop-down.
In the device settings I can choose "HDA Intel: CONEXANT Analog (hw:0,0)" or "default" for recording,
and "HDA Intel: CONEXANT Analog (hw:0,1)" or "default" for playback, along w/ IEC958, SPDIF and DMIX.
All I can manage to record is the microphone(s). My gut feeling says that I need to select the
hw: 0,1 for recording, but that is unavailable.
Cheers
1.3.12, Slackware 64, can't choose "default" for recording

Not all sound cards allow recording "stereo mix".
Things in Linux can even get more complex because of all the sound systems available... Are you using pulseaudio or jack? There are ways of redirecting the output of what's playing with some sound systems such as JACK, even if the sound card doesn't have the option...
You also have some plugins for firefox that allow to record streams from some websites...
The drop down menu should be next to the playback/recording volume sliders. You might have the toolbar disabled (check View -> Toolbars -> Mixer toolbar).
.
You may also select the recording device with alsamixer (press F4 for capture mode) ou other similar mixer/volume control panel/whatever.

Include as much details as you can in your post (Audacity version, Operating System, Equipment used, etc).
Please post your question in the appropriate forum (regarding audacity version and operating system).
