I am having a problem with Freeverb. I can select a portion of a track (or entire track for that matter) and preview the Freeverb effect and all is well. If I apply the effect, my selection is wiped out and replaced with noise. Any ideas on what is happening?

I should also add I am using the x64 version of Ubuntu.

There are many implementaions of Freeverb. Please supply a link to the one you are using. Is it one of these?

Have you tried in another DAW to see if the problem is with Freeverb?

Which version of Freeverb are you using (and from where did you get it)?

I am using the one that came with the Ubuntu 10.10 distribution. My assumption is it is "LADSPA Computer Music Toolkit". I believe the package in Ubuntu 10.10 is "cmt".

"Digital Audio Workstation" as in Ardour.

I think that's the same one that I've got on Ubuntu 10.10 32 bit, and although I don't get the same problem that you are describing, it does not appear to be completely stable on my machine either.

When you look in the Freeverb interface, is it Freeverb 3? That's the one supplied with the cmt package in Ubuntu 10:10. I can't replicate a Freeverb 3 problem in Audacity SVN HEAD under Ubuntu 10.10.

How long are the mono tracks you are applying Freeverb to? What are the exact Freeverb settings that cause the waveform to be silenced?

Do other cmt plug-ins have the same problem?

Yes, it is Freeverb 3. The mono tracks are anywhere from 2:30 to 3:30. Other cmt plug-ins do not seem to have a problem.

That said, there have been some interesting developments. I downloaded Ardour to see if I had the same problem, but the learning curve on Ardour seemed too great for me to get an answer in a short period of time. So I removed Ardour and cleaned up using Ubuntu Tweak. Suddenly Freeverb no longer created noise on being applied. However, I now get artifacts, usually at the beginning and ending of the tracks. My settings are 0.5 with the exception of Dry Level which is 1. The sound I get with these settings is close to what I want, but I can't seem to get rid of the artifacts. These artifacts seem to come from other portions of the track.

I have started trying to use Gverb, but the settings are difficult for me to achieve the sound I am looking for.

I plan to re-install Ardour and spend some time with it to see what results I can get using it. That may take me a while to get used to the interface and functionality. I'll post my results when I get them concerning Freeverb and Ardour.
