Just loaded Audacity. I am trying to record my guitar through a Line 6 Guitar port. I'm going from the 1/8 inch headphone jack on the guitar port to the mic input on the computer. No luck. I also tried to record from my Zoom G1X pedal reducing the 1/4 inch out jack to 1/8 inch, then into the mic input on the computer. No luck. I can attach headphones to both configurations and hear the guitar so why wont it work going in through the mic input?
Help please.

Tell us more about your system...

What do you mean by no luck? You don't get any sound at all from the mic, or you get bad sound?

What recording device have you selected in Preferences->Devices? (host and recording)

Have you been able to successfully record anything from the mic input before with other equipment? Or is this the first time your trying?

What distro and sound system are you using?

If you can hear the sound you want connecting a pair of headphones to the output of the devices then it's probably line-level signal which means the results connecting the same output to a mic-level input won't be very satisfactory (mic input will put a lot of amplification on the signal and you'll get a sound that is distorted and too loud).

A brief googling lead me to this article: http://www.ubuntugeek.com/how-to-instal ... or-gx.html
Is this is your device? Will this steps make it work in your system? (through the usb connection)

If you can make it work through the usb connection that would always be the preferrable solution.
