Hi people.
i'm new here, but i hope you'll help me anyway.
my setup: arch linux current 64bit, and audacity from repositories with these version(s):

Unable to open Portmixer

My problem is that i don't have any mixer toolbar so i can't choose the input channel for recording.
i read the wiki and it says that if i have portaudio v19 i must have audacity 1.3.x and that's my case.

any idea what's going wrong? thank you

The recording device is selected in the Preferences, under the Devices tab.

Not sure if I understand what your problem is...

What are you trying to do? What was supposed to happen? And what really happens?

what i want to do is record from the line-in port of my notebook.
i searched google about this, and found this page:

where, in the section Workflow - setting up audacity i read:

Windows XP or earlier or Linux, select line-in in Audacity's Mixer Toolbar input selector

where Mixer Toolbar is a link for http://audacityteam.org/onlinehelp-1.2/ ... _mixer.htm where i can see a toolbar similar to the one i have, but with an additional select field where i can choose the line to record from.

is the documentation i read old or is there something that is not working properly?

That seems to be documentation for the old 1.2 (though still considered to be the stable version, eventhough it's more unstable than 1.3 in some systems). You don't have nothing broken, it's probably just the documentation that is old...

Anyways the best way to select your desired source is to go to the preferences (under Edit menu, or press Ctrl-P), select Devices section and then under recording select the apropriate input from the drop down menu (should be something like "line-in", name will vary depending on your system, soundcard model, etc).

Also note that most notebooks don't have a line input, only a mic input, which is not suitable for recording line level signals... Make sure yours has a line-in. If not the solution is to get an usb adapter. You can read some reviews in the Recording Equipment section of this forum.
