audacity stops working constantly
hi, i've been trying to find any advice for my situation, but haven't been able to come up with anything. audacity works fine for a few minutes, and then i can't perform any actions. it will still play back the track i'm working on, but almost all of the menu options are greyed out. i cant save, import/export, edit anything. its probably something simple, but i can't for the life of me figure it out. sometimes i can work for 10-15 minutes, other times it happens in like 2 minutes. had the same problem on my laptop running vista, thought it would be better on linux, but its the exact same thing.

You can't perform any actions while the track is active. Press the yellow Stop button.nowhere wrote:hi, i've been trying to find any advice for my situation, but haven't been able to come up with anything. audacity works fine for a few minutes, and then i can't perform any actions. it will still play back the track i'm working on, but almost all of the menu options are greyed out. i cant save, import/export, edit anything. its probably something simple, but i can't for the life of me figure it out. sometimes i can work for 10-15 minutes, other times it happens in like 2 minutes. had the same problem on my laptop running vista, thought it would be better on linux, but its the exact same thing.
How many tracks are you working with? Audacity will struggle with a lot of tracks in a single project. The limit varies according to your machine and operating system. Reduce the number of tracks. Edit a group of tracks then select all the tracks in that group by using up or down arrow on the keyboard then ENTER to select/deselect tracks. Then Tracks > Mix and Render.
Or cut some of the tracks to a new project (Edit > Cut, File > New, Edit > Paste, then Tracks > Remove Tracks in the original project).
