I'm using what is available in Ubuntu Gutsy 7.10.. Audacity vr. 1.3.4-beta (Unicode).. for me the interface provides no ability to change the input type at all. It defaults to Mic (which is the only thing that I have chosen in Alsa for capture). Also the input volume control has no effect.. what does effect the input is the "Capture" slider in Alsa. I've attached an image of the Audacity interface..
Perhaps this will all change in a couple of weeks with the release of Hardy.. but until then.. I'm mystified. Any help would be appreciated.
No Input Selection available

Audacity 1.3.x is now obsolete. Please use the current Audacity 2.x.x package for your distribution or compile Audacity from the source code.

Re: No Input Selection available
Control of the audio inputs through the Audacity interface only works if the audio hardware drivers support it, which an increasing number don't. If if you have the input selection in the Audacity interface, the ALSA mixer will override it.
When Audacity 1.2.x and 1.3.x were first released, most sound card drivers supported control from external applications such as Audacity. Many modern drivers do not support this and so this feature often causes confusion. Personally I hope that Audacity drop this feature altogether when version 1.4 comes out (not because it's not a handy feature, but because it causes so much confusion when it doesn't work).
