snd_hda_intel and audacity

Post by moony » Sat Mar 22, 2008 2:04 am

hello,

i'm trying to record something with different versions of audacity (now 1.3.4-beta) and alsa (1.0.15.3) for a while.
when i press record, the cursor appears, but doesn't move and when i stop the record, there's no sound recorded.
i've tried various sample- and bit-rates, different I/O settings, nothing works :(

my question: is someone here who got the chipset (lspci output:) "ATI Technologies Inc IXP SB4x0 High Definition Audio Controller (rev 01)" or the kernel module "snd_hda_intel" and is able to record sound?

If the cursor does not move, it is probably that the recording settings are wrong. Some hardware/driver combinations are very fussy about sample rates etc. Usually it will work if you select "ALSA default" in "Edit > Preferences > Audio I/O" but occasionally you have to specify one of the other options.

If you look in "Help > Audio Device Info" you should see a list of all audio inputs and outputs and what sample rates are supported. This should give you some indication of what settings are required.
