0.68 seconds!

Post by Paulus » Thu Mar 06, 2008 7:25 pm

I was on the 1.2.x forum, because I thought I had that version, and some problems. I found out I have 1.3.3 by default in PCLinuxOS.
I took the quote from the other tread:
Paulus wrote:Yesterday I was able to record a peace of half an hour, now I can only record 0,68 SECONDS!
Answer from Stef:
Check the amount of available space for the temporary files - you can find the location of the temp directory by looking in "Edit > Preferences > Directories". If this doesn't fix it, start a new thread on the "Audacity 1.3.x GNU/Linux and Unix-like" board. Hopefully you will also get some fresh help from others on the forum.[/quote]

I checked it and it gave me the answer: 2.7 Gb of space available, so I must be able to record about 4 hours of music. Anybody can tell me why I become only 0.68 seconds(exactly)?

Problem now resolved.

I believe the solution was:
... the only thing I can suggest is that you reset Audacity by removing the configuration file. It is located at ~/.audacity-data/audacity.cfg
After deleting (or renaming) that file, Audacity will return to its initial "first install" state. Note that you will need to set up the Audio devices again after you do this.

 the problem seemed to be solved, but after the first recording, which was about four minutes, the second was again restricted to 0.68 seconds. Also were the presets for audio i/o corrupted (showed only 3 or 4 of the 9 possibilities). I "solved" the problem by completely removing audacity, and afterwards reinstalling it, by means of synaptic, but I don't think that's the right way!

I've just had a look on the PCLinuxOS forum and it seems that when they first introduced Audacity 1.3 into their repo's there was something wrong with it - There's a whole load of posts there about stability issues. The good news is that it looks like it has now been fixed, so uninstalling completely and reinstalling with Synaptic is probably the best thing you could have done.

Let's hope it stays fixed :D
