I need to install Audacity on my Acer Aspire One with Linpus Linux. From what I have read in one post here in the forum it seems that for my netbook I need the Linux version Fedora. Is that correct? And which version? Fedora Core or Project?

I want to cut long internet radio streams into peaces. Hope that MP3 support is included.

Definitely uninstall Linpus Linux which is nagware and not fully open source. Since Linpus is baased on Fedora you may be better with Fedora than Ubuntu, though Ubuntu is usually thought to be one of the easiest Linux Versions to use. There is some information on Ubuntu and Acer Aspire One here.

The current Fedora version is 13. If you get the latest Fedora 13 you will be able to get the latest Audacity package from Fedora though on Ubuntu you can get a later packaged version of Audacity. Note packages are not supplied by Audacity because we only supply source code for Linux.

I don't know if the Fedora Audacity packages let you encode MP3. To play MP3 on Fedora see this. The Audacity packages on Ubuntu import and export MP3 fine (you have to install LAME to export MP3).
