I found that thread I thought I had seen, and I had a look at it, but not posting the link here since most of it is just some rambling arguing not worthy reading...

Anyway, more ppl seem to have been through that problem, which seems to be caused by some weird combination of several factors, for which there seems to be different workarounds that worked for some...

In some cases changing the sample rate from 44100 Hz to 48000 Hz seems to have solved the problem... In other cases it was the opposite (changing from 48k to 44.1k).

Other workarounds that worked for some include upgrading the kernel or disabling the playthrough option in pulseaudio settings.
Include as much details as you can in your post (Audacity version, Operating System, Equipment used, etc).
Please post your question in the appropriate forum (regarding audacity version and operating system).

I finally got everything to work after experimenting with device settings. It seems the default setting was giving me problems. There were two instances of the sound card showing up and all I did was choose the first instance as my playback and record device. Everything's bunnies and cupcakes now!

Until the next upgrade, that is.

Many thanks for all your help!
