cannot start audacity in opensuse 11.2

When I try to start audacity 1.3.8 in opensuse 11.2 rc1 I get the dialog to select the language, and then nothing. Starting audacity from command line gives me the following:

audacity: simple.c:585: snd_mixer_selem_get_capture_volume_range: Assertion `(elem)->type == SND_MIXER_ELEM_SIMPLE' failed.
Aborted

Is there a way to fix it? Could I give an option on the command line to circumvent the problem?

Opensuse 11.2 rc1 x86-64 with 3Gb ram, kde 4.3.1

If you are able to build Audacity from source...

download the latest source code
delete the hidden folder /home/<username>/.audacity_data
build Audacity from source.

(make sure that you get no errors about missing dependencies)

Hello,

I have a similar setup. I just used the YAST tool and installed 1.3.9-17 from Suse. Everything worked fine. I got an idea that some of the dependencies from "Flash Player" might be involved though as "Flash Player" installation wouldn't allow audacity to work in Ubuntu 8.04. There I could install one or the other but not both at the same time.
