This might be a hardware issue, but I most certainly need an opinion.
I was happily recording my vinyl collection on an old acer laptop running Kubuntu. I was having such a great time that I managed to jam the hard drive and stick myself into a login loop. Now that the condition has been fixed, I can't properly record out of the line in like I used to be able to. Audacity thinks that I'm plugged in to the mic jack (mic monitor is bouncing about.)
The device options under mic are listed as:
OSS: /dev/dsp,
ALSA: SiS Sl7012: SiS Sl7012 (hw:0,0),
ALSA: SiS Sl7012: SiS Sl7012 - MIC ADC (hw:0,1),
ALSA: spdif, ALSA: default
Under Line Out, We have:
OSS: /dev/dsp,
ALSA: SiS Sl7012: SiS Sl7012 (hw:0,0)
ALSA: Font
ALSA: iec958
ALSA: spdif
ALSA: default
ALSA: dmix
No matter what I pick, Audacity thinks that my line in is the mic!
Can someone please help me sort this out?
ALSA: dmix
Line in acting like a mic?

Re: Line in acting like a mic?
You probably want the recording input set to (hw:0,0) and if not that, then (hw:0,1).
After that it's setting up your system mixer application. Unfortunately I've never used KDE so I can't help there, but there is probably a loudspeaker icon on one of your panels that will give you access to your system mixer application.
