I am using Ubuntu 9.04 (Jaunty). I have a relatively new motherboard that uses the Realtek ALC 889A codec. I find the 889A is noted as a device on the(Ubuntu) sound preferences toolbar as an "OSS Mixer". It is recognized by the system as an "ALC 883" when I query for devices.
I cannot set my inputs correctly under the preferences tab for the mixer in Audacity. (They don't match). I've used previous versions of Audacity with another sound card and earlier releases of Ubuntu without any problems. I cannot seem to get this one to work. The system will not allow me to install earlier releases of Audacity plus 1.3.8 crashes (freezes) occasionally The card does not seem to have a current driver listed by ALSA. Is there a way to get this one running or do I have to wait for the developers to catch up?
Any info. is appreciated.

According to this page Ubuntu 9.04 is using Audacity 1.3.7 (or has it recently been updated?)
"ALC 883" should be able to work with ALSA 1.0.14rc3 and later.
Audacity 1.3.7 (Ubuntu build) with ALSA 1.0.18 worked pretty well on my machine, but you will get all sorts of trouble if there are any problems with your sound card drivers.

Yes, (quite embarassed)
I am using 1.3.7 The mb in question does use the newer 889 codec so the problem may lie there. They may be just similar enough that one is recognized as the other.
