As opposed to the post about recording that stops after .6", on my machine (Squeeze) the record stops together with the view meters and the audio position vertical cursor. It will record for a random time ranging from < 1" to forever. Mean is < 10"
When it records, the resulting exported wave file (played on an XP box) is perfectly recorded. The mic gain control works perfectly.
When in good mood i.e. will record repeatedly, if I press s for stop recording then r record again, it will create another waveform at the bottom and WILL PLAY the upper waveform!
I'd tend to say my inability to play is related to the record problem
Tried to reduce the sampling rate, does not seem related

Re: Record stops after a random time
The only time I've noticed this is if I try to record a mono sound stream into a stereo track, or a stereo sound stream into a mono track. I'm not sure where the fault lies - it could be in pulseaudio, Alsa, portaudio, Audacity, or somewhere else, but setting the recording to stereo for stereo sound streams and mono for mono sound streams fixes it on this machine.g2c wrote:As opposed to the post about recording that stops after .6", on my machine (Squeeze) the record stops together with the view meters and the audio position vertical cursor. That's normal and allows Audacity to make multi-track recordings. To continue recording on the same track, use SHIFT+R (resume recording).g2c wrote:When in good mood i.e. will record repeatedly, if I press s for stop recording then r record again, it will create another waveform at the bottom and WILL PLAY the upper waveform!

I am having the problem in mono or stereo.stevethefiddle wrote:The only time I've noticed this is if I try to record a mono sound stream into a stereo track, or a stereo sound stream into a mono track.
When it stops in the middle of recording it's still waits that I press stop in order to do anything else (e.g. Edit Undo record). It stops recording but IS NOT in the stop state.
Re: Record stops after a random time
Just a thought - check that you do not have "Sound Activated Recording" switched on (Transport menu). It should normally be off.
