Hello,
I installed Audacity 1.3.7 on a my Compaq Armada 1750 320MB ram with Debian Squeeze. When I import an audio (mp3) it displays the waveform as it should but if I press "play" the "Audio position displays -7h-mm s for a second then displays again 00h00m00s. Also the vertical audio position cursor appears at the leftmost position and immediately vanishes and the program stays waiting for a new action.
A a comparison I installed Audacity 1.3.8 on an Compaq Presario with xp I can import and play w/o any problem
Any idea?
Guy

Re: Play does not play
I've not seen or heard of this problem before, but the first thing that I would try is updating to Audacity 1.3.8

Re: Play does not play
Synaptic says installed version 1.3.7-3 Latest version 1.3.7-3. Guess no 1.3.8 in the repos (?)
Re: Play does not play
I installed xfmedia and tried to play the know good mp3 file submitted to audacity: xfmedia does play but a pure "rhythmic garbage"
Can it be that I am missing a component that audacity is looking for and stops for not finding it and that xfmedia "think" it has but plays garbage for not really having it?

Re: Play does not play
1.3.7 is probably the most current version in the repo. (the repositories always lag a little way behind, especially for software that is being rapidly developed like Audacity).g2c wrote:Synaptic says installed version 1.3.7-3 Latest version 1.3.7-3. Guess no 1.3.8 in the repos (?)
Did you previously use "Lenny"? Did Audacity work on that?
That's possible, or that Squeeze contains an incompatible version of a library that is required for MP3 playback.g2c wrote:Can it be that I am missing a component that audacity is looking for and stops for not finding it and that xfmedia "think" it has but plays garbage for not really having it?
Am I right in thinking that the standard Debian repositories do not include support for MP3 and that you need to add a "restricted" repository for MP3 support?

Re: Play does not play
Hello Stevethefiddle,
I don't think that there is an issue with mp3 as when I import an mp3 it will display a waveform in the time domain. BTW, if I export this I can play this .wav on an XP box.
Chances that xfmedia problem is different: It will play crap even if I submit a wave.
Please refer to the issue with the recording. For me it's far more important to be able to record in a deterministic way: I want to record lectures of a broadcast university on the radio so I can listen later in the car
