FFmpeg Library

Hi ! My name is Paco and I live in Austria. This is my first topic so before anything, I would like to greet all members of this forum so, HI EVERYBODY!! :D

Now:

I wanted to import an ac3 audio file and convert it into a MP3 file and it seems to be possible if the libavformat.so.52 library is installed. Audacity doesn't detect it because it asks for the avformat-52.dll library, which is a Windows type of file. How can this happen if I'm using Audacity for Linux on Ubuntu (8.04)?

Thanks in advance for your eventual answers. ;)

Yes there was a misprint in that version of Audacity.

First the bad news: Audacity does not work with the version of FFmpeg that comes with Ubuntu 8.04
The good news, it works with the version that comes with Ubuntu 9.04 (Jaunty)
Also, the version of Audacity in Jaunty (1.3.7) has a lot of bug fixes and on my machine at least has been considerably better behaved than it ever was on Ubuntu 8.04

Okay, thanks.
But I won't install another version of Ubuntu until the next LTS arrives. So, I'll wait...

The Jaunty version of Audacity works fine on Ubuntu 8.10
I've not tried it on 8.04 and I've not tried FFmpeg on 8.04 either. If they don't work, it's simple enough to uninstall them.

The other alternatives are to build from the source code, or as you say, to wait.
