Audacity 1.3.7 Record Crash (Jaunty, Pulse, H4n USB)

Hi,
I have 1.3.7 installed in a new, clean version of Ubuntu Jaunty. I am new to the linux world. I have configured Pulse audio per detailed instructions on the Ubuntu forums. In Audacity, I can import a file, edit, playback etc. through my "sound card," in this case a Zoom H4n connected via USB. I can monitor audio levels coming through the H4's mics in Audacity. But, when I click on "record" the levels freeze, and the program crashes. The H4 is set to 44.1 16bit, and I have set the audio tracks in Audacity to match, in addition to trying 24bit and 32float. Always the same result -- freezing levels in the monitor window, and a application crash.
FWIW, I have recorded with this setup in SoundRecorder with no problem.
Any help greatly appreciated! Thanks.
