no sound or wave pattern
hi iv got a mac 10.5.6 desk top, and im using an edirol fa 66 external sound card(firewire), i am trying to record from a dj mixer . so iv taken the rca from the record out from the mixer and into the input rca ports of the sound card , then the firewire cable from the sound card into the mac. when i try record , all i get is a flat line , and no sound ! why is that? am i doing something wrong? any help please , thanks sean

You need to tell the machine that the device is there and available.
Apple > System Preferences > Hardware > Sound > Input
Select your FireWire device from the list. You should be able to make sounds and the panel sound meter should light up. Make sure the panel volume setting is turned up.
Close the panel. When you launch Audacity, it's normal for its input to be Default Input. Click once inside the record meters and they should wake up and bounce with your sounds.
