Where is the version dividing line when the Intel Mac 1.3.x Audacity versions started needing a newer lame? How do you know if you already have the right one? What are the repercussions of using the wrong one, or is it even possible?
I encountered a lame download that produced an "installer" that then asked me for a dangerous administrator/System password. Why did it do that?

With the most recent versions of Audacity on Linux, if you try to use the wrong version of Lame, it is simply not recognised.
