Importing a 24-bit FLAC

I just noticed that whenever I import a 24bit/48000Hz FLAC file it becomes 16bit in Audacity. Is there a way to preserve 24bit samling?
Thanks

Did you set your Audacity preferences to 24-bit?
Audacity > Preferences > Quality.

Yes, I did. Regardless of whether I set the default quality settings to 24bit or 32bit the resulted file in Audacity is 16bit/48000Hz.

Are you absolutely sure that the flac file is 24bit?

Click on the File.
File > Open With > QuickTime Player.
Apple-I to get the INFO panel.

Koz, thanks for the reply - I am pretty sure that the flac is 24bit - I've checked the file with MediaInfo, VLC, dbpoweramp and of course, QT, all of them are in concert about that. Both Audacity 1.3.7beta and 1.3.8alpha seem to have this strange bug (or whatever it is). Interestingly, Audacity for Windows works fine and the imported 24bit FLACs are shown as 32 bit (I understand from responses in another thread that this is the way 24bit should be treated internally).
I don't think there is a major difference between 16 and 24bit especially that am further converting the file to DTS but it would still be great to have it close to the original.
Thanks!

You probably shouldn't worry too much about this. The Mac Audacity 1.3.8 format handling is completely scrambled. I'm working with the version mommy on this in another message thread. If you have any actual work to do, you might roll back to 1.3.5 or 1.3.6. Don't forget to delete the preference files. They'll be fried by now.
/User/koz/Library/Application Support/Audacity/*
Kill the whole folder.
Also look in /User/koz/ Library/Preferences/audacity Preferences
It's a single file. Trash it.

Where can i find ver. 1.3.5? I seem to be unable to install ffmpeg libraries in ver.1.3.6 as it is looking for some Windows .dll

This may be a lot more fun than I can deal with. I don't think all the 1.3 versions supported ffmpeg. You need to dig more in the install information and the FAQs.

ffmpeg support was first introduced with Audacity 1.3.6 (hence the reason for a few glitches with it).
You will find the release notes here:
