Audacity 1.3.x is now obsolete. Please use the current Audacity 2.1.x version.

Mac 0S X 10.3 and earlier are no longer supported but you can download legacy versions of Audacity for those systems HERE.

I can ask one of the Systems Operators here at work. One or two of them are really good with Macs.

Didn't we solve this explosion and focus thing like weeks ago? I need to go home to really test this stuff. Occasionally, they need me to do actual work.

The file "audacity Preferences" will not appear on a search for "audacity," but it will appear on a search for "audacity Preferences" or the star wildcard "audacity*".

But now that I know the secret, it does show up on a search for "audacity." I love tools that do this.....

We did get rid of all but the one exploding rectangle. That's the one I'm not sure about.

And yes, I thought we did fix the focus thing. Our changes haven't been reverted, so if a problem still exists then it must be another variant that we didn't address.

Leland, I'd like to to meet OS-X's grandparents, NextStep® and BSDLinux®.

I know people that set up their whole Mac from the command line. I'm not one of those people.

OK. Now that I know where all the preferences are, I got 1.3.8 20090202 to ask me English? and when I opened up the piano thing, it arrived focused and with golden halo and SpaceBar Play.

When I launch it from /Applications/Audacity138/Audacity.app, I get an exploding icon and an exploding outline. When I close it, I get an imploding outline. Before I killed the opening greeting panel, I got two exploding outlines, one for Audacity and one for the greeting.

Why don't we delete all the outline animations? Every one, both directions. Leave the animated icons. Those are pretty cool.

We're not competing with a 1983 IBM PC now, we know the Mac can do screen graphics. Really. It's been in all the papers.

I can not import long aiff file with Audacity 1.3.7.
This problem had not been in Audacity 1.3.6.
Actually, I had downgraded my Audacity to version 1.3.6 to avoid this problem.
I think my problem is similar to that of discussed in this thread.

With Audacity 1.3.6:
I can record audio of any length.
I can export "aiff" audio of any length.
I can import "aiff" audio file of any length.

With Audacity 1.3.7:
I can record audio of any length.
I can export "aiff" audio of any length.
I can import "aiff" audio file of less than (approximately) 20 minutes.
I can NOT import "aiff" audio file of more than (approximately) 1 hour.
( I can read the same aiff file with Audacity 1.3.6)
(I have not tested between 20 minutes to 1 hour)

My environment is:
PowerMacG5, 1.8GHz, Memory1.5GB, 1TB HDD remaining over 600GB
MacOSX 10.4.11
I'm always using audio format as:
48kHz, 16bit, aiff, (Tested "aiff" files were made by Audacity's export)
recording lenght is normally 20 minutes to 3 hours.

Are you sure the 1.3.7 you have was downloaded on or after 9th February? We replaced the file on the server on that day with a build which should not have this problem. Here is the one (we think) is fixed:
http://downloads.sourceforge.net/audaci ... -1.3.7.dmg

If that build cannot import AIFF files longer than an hour, is this with the Import / Export Preferences set to "read directly", "make a copy" or both?

Thanks

It might be interesting to split this up a bit. I don't trust Audacity exports for a second. That's how I created the sound file that reads in three different bit depths depending on where you look and the humidity outside. I posted that file and I still haven't heard back. Leland is probably lying bleeding by the side of the road somewhere.

Anyway, sometime in the next two hours or so, I will finish uploading 'This American Life' to my web site. It's one hour and ten minutes long and it's a very stiff 707MB download.

It's claim to fame is that it's a 44100, 16-bit, Stereo AIFF uncompressed sound file that was not produced by Audacity. It was produced by WireTap Pro using, we assume, Tiger QuickTime services. It plays perfectly and produces a correct INFO panel in WireTap, QuickTime Pro, and Audacity (I think I used 1.3.4 this morning--it's too late to go check).

http://www.kozco.com/tech/audacity/iTun ... ing_1.aiff

Relax. It's not really an iTunes file. That's WireTap's Auto Name scheme.

If everybody can open that, then we have an Audacity export problem, not an import problem. If the moons and stars line up, we could have two problems.

I loaded the recommended Audacity version of 1.3.7 on my development system...

============================================
Mac Mini 1.83 GHz Intel Core Duo, 2G memory
Mac OS-X 10.5.6
piano2.wav 16-bit Integer (Little Endian), Stereo, 48.000 KHz.
http://www.kozco.com/tech/soundtests.html
===========================================
OS-X Updated 20090222

The Audacity version is 1.3.7 dated in the INFO panel as 8 FEB 09. Is that really the one you wanted me to test?

It loads and plays that long iTunes_recording_1.aiff and the above piano2.wav file.

It asked me for "English?"

However...

It loads and unpacks the very long NPR show perfectly and arrives complete with Golden Halo, Focus, and SpaceBar Play, Piano2.wav arrives with no halo, no focus, and no SpaceBar Play.

I thought we fixed that.

And I thought we were going to kill off all those exploding outlines.

I had troubles getting lame. The new system downloads an "installer" which starts asking me for the dangerous system password. Since when do I need to modify the kernel to copy a file to the Plugins folder?

Are there any other audio test files I should test?
