FFT Size. Global?
Audacity 1.3.5 under Intel Mac, OS-X 10.4.11
Does the FFT size setting in...
Audacity > Audacity Preferences > Spectrograms > FFT Size
...affect the quality of the noise profile? Does anything?

Re: FFT Size. Global?
I think it just changes the display, but makes no difference to the audio.
Increasing the number of bands also makes refreshing of the display take longer, but that is probably not very noticeable on a fast machine.

<<<I think it just changes the display>>>
I'm hoping not. I'm hoping that some programmer programmed one FFT module and changing the settings affects all the tools that use FFT--most of them, I'm guessing.
Cool Edit /Audition lets you change the characteristics of the profile capture.

Re: FFT Size. Global?
I am talking about the settings in Preferences, now, not the ones in the actual analyze tool.

Re: FFT Size. Global?
Yup. That's what it's called.

Re: FFT Size. Global?
That setting changes the FFT resolution that is used when you select "Spectrum" or "Spectrum Log" as the display mode for the track (in the track drop down menu.
Most of the effects in Audacity do not use FFT, but those that do will often have their own controls for setting the FFT size (for example the Equalizer effect).

Re: FFT Size. Global?
So there's no way to change the Noise Reducer profile accuracy... I wonder what it is.

You'll need to ask Dominic about that http://audacityteam.org/forum/viewtopic ... 010#p30888kozikowski wrote:So there's no way to change the Noise Reducer profile accuracy... I wonder what it is.
