Streaming audio

I just tried using Audacity v 1.3.6 (Mac OSX, v 10.5.5) on my new iMac; I'd used it with great success on previous Macs, but am unable to get a signal through to it from streaming audio now. I believe I've been through all the applicable preference options, but am unable to record. I have no idea what it I'm doing wrong. Let me emphasize that it did work in the past. I've been to Audio Devices in Audio MIDI Setup, and think everything's as it should be there - any suggestions?

Thanks -

Somebody will correct me, and nobody has yet, modern Macs will not record their own output without help. This is a stability measure. Most Windows people can do this and most of the postings over on the Windows forum have to do with screwing this up--not questions about Audacity.

I have a license for WireTap that I'm happy with and I tried the free SoundFlower from the Apple web site that I'm not. You need to be really dedicated to use SoundFlower and I'm not that dedicated--but it can be forced to work.

Thanks - I had WireTap once, but lost it in a crash and never went back. I suppose I will now; I like Audacity for its editing power - is it possible to capture streaming audio in WireTap and edit in Audacity?

That is what they do, yes. You do have to get their settings right.

I record streams through Soundflower onto Audacity 1.3.6 (and earlier). No problems at all, using OSX 10.5.5, and MacBook Pro. No instability at all, and that includes streaming through my wireless router for more than 2 hours constant audio.

Thanks to all who have responded. I've re-upped my password with WireTap, and will use that to capture and Audacity to edit -
