You selected the audio you wanted to work on and then opened the tool, right? I don't think it will work without the selection first.
Then you get a big panel explaining how it works and selection tools for frequency range and other characteristics. Nothing like that?
Don't fall in love with that idea. Vocal Removal almost always fails in one way or another. If the singer has echo on her voice, the echo stays behind. If they're not in the middle of the stereo field, odd things can happen or the filter fails outright. Oh, and if the drums and bass are in the middle? Gone.
