amplitude measurements

Hiya,

I'm looking at recordings I made last autumn using an accelerometer and some LabView. I made absolute amplitude recordings from vibratory signals. The signals are very low amplitude (peak looks like <20 volts). Audacity doesn't like to let me zoom in past a certain point on the y-axis, and does not seem to have a tool that will give me the peak amplitude from a selected sample.

(Raven does the latter, but in their units, not volts. I no longer have the gear set up to where I could work out the proportions between volts and their units. Audacity give me the volts, but I can't zoom in close enough to get an accurate reading.)

Any thoughts?

Thanks
Jen

Select the track and amplify it by a known amount.

Amplify by 6dB to double the amplitude.
Amplify by 12 dB for amplitude x 4
18 dB = amplitude x 8
24 dB = amplitude x 16
....

Click and drag on the vertical scale to select a zoom range.

Also, you can grab the bottom edge of the track with your mouse and pull it down to increase the vertical size of the track.
