Duplicate attribute in edited project file?

Operating system: OSX 10.5.4
Hardware: MacBook Pro 2.6 GHz, Echo AudioFire4 interface
Audacity version 1.3.5
I’ve been converting some vinyl with the above system, without any issues until now.
Yesterday, when I attempted to reopen a project file I had edited with some click removal and track labeling, saved, and closed, I got the following message:
Error Opening Project
Duplicate attribute Line 2503
I was unable to open the project in Audacity. Is this something I can repair in the .aup file?
If so, how?
Any idea what caused this?
Many thanks,
Tim

You need to be very careful editing .aup files manually - it's very easy to completely mess them up. However, the project doesn't work now, so what is there to loose?
It's quite safe to have a look in the aup file, just open it in a text editor.
Do you have a text editor that can display line numbers?

Steve,
Will TextEdit work? I don't have the files on this machine, so can't check.
Which editors do you have in mind?
Thanks,
Tim

I guess it will, but I'm a Linux user (ex Windows user), but not Mac.
I'd use G-Edit or Scite, but that's on Linux.

OK, viewing the aup file by line number, what should I look for at the indicated number, and how can I edit to fix it?
Thanks,
Tim

Heck I don't know, I let Audacity do all that clever stuff
If you make a copy of the file and post it as an attachment I'll have a look. (you may need to change the file extension to .txt for the forum software to accept it).
I'm certainly not making any promises here - this is a very grey area.
In the mean time, have a look here to see if anything helps:

I corrected the duplicate attribute using a line editor. It was a track end location duplicated instead of track title entered. Now Audacity opens the aup file and reveals multiple orphan data files and corruptions. Audacity Unstable indeed.... The file recovery procedures on the wiki look like more time and trouble than just redoing the project in this case. Thanks for your suggestions, however.
