LAME is lame and Audacity is create silent spots
I have downloaded the right link and stored in multiple places on my computer and no matter how I do it - the library is not accepting my simple file.
I'm doing this after having big problems with audacity - where I retrieve last night's work and there are parts of my recording there are silenced out - just a straight bar where once there was sound ....
HELP!!!
I've got goods to make!
it worked once!
thanks all

You can get silence gaps when you change in any way the music or sound clips you used in the show. Audacity does not make personal copies of music and if you use the sound files and then move them, Audacity can't find them any more and the show goes flat line.
You can open your AUP file in WordPad or other editor and read it. Buried in the coding, it should tell you where it thinks the music is.
See where it says "aliasfile?"

Force Audacity to make personal local copies of all music.
Audacity > Preferences > Projects > Copy All...
Audacity looks for the lame and FFMpeg libraries in the Preference Settings.
Audacity > Preferences > Libraries
I think you're supposed to let Audacity install its own libraries because it does it in a "hidden" folder. /usr/local/lib... I remember struggling with this. If it didn't ask you for your password, you probably did it wrong.
Get the software from here.

The *much* safer preference to set is Audacity > Preferences > Import / Export: Make a copy... . That way, the files are copied in when you import them, without waiting until you save the project (which you might not).kozikowski wrote:Force Audacity to make personal local copies of all music.

What full three-section version number of Audacity do you have - for example, 1.3.14 (see Audacity > About Audacity).
You can look at File > Check Dependencies to see if a missing WAV or AIFF file is the problem.
If not, have you been moving any folders inside the _data folder for the project? That can cause missing spots.

Re: LAME is lame and Audacity is create silent spots
Yeah I did move the files into a folder.
I put them back to the desktop where I had them ... doesn't work. I've turned it off and on.
Now on the advice of a friend perhaps I will uninstall and reinstall
and see if I can get the LAME working
I'm apprehensive to work to fill in the gaps again if it's going to give me silent spots again - even though I won't move files next time, who knows?
I have Audacity 1.2.6
Gale both of your suggestions don't pan out when I go to it
Thanks for your help
not feeling alone with a computer is half the battle
I'll be okay
it will work eventually
then I'll share the goods

We assumed you were on 1.3 because that was the board you posted to. "Check Dependencies" doesn't exist in that version, and "Make a copy" is in the File Formats Preferences.ebwally wrote:Yeah I did move the files into a folder.

You should upgrade to Audacity 1.3.14 if you are on OS X 10.4 or later:
http://audacityteam.org/download/beta_mac /
1.3.14 should open the project and it will give you more information about what is wrong. Don't save the project in 1.3.14 though until you have the problem sorted out.
If you want some help, post the .aup file so we can see it ("Upload attachment" underneath where you post).

Re: LAME is lame and Audacity is create silent spots
Thanks for the .aup. There doesn't look anything wrong with it. Make sure all those b0... files listed in the .aup file are really sitting there with the others in the "transmission 6_data" folder.
