CAN'T INSTALL ICON IN OS X DOCK

CAN'T INSTALL ICON IN OS X DOCK
On my Mac OS X.4.11, dragging the Audacity app (1.3.14) to the dock doesn't install an icon in the dock. Anyone have a suggestion? Thanks.

Do the rest of the icons move out of the way and the new one just doesn't "stick?"
From Applications, Control click on Audacity and make alias. Drag the alias to the desktop. Now drag it to the dock.

That's right it won't stick, and the doc icons don't move out of the way. It won't take an Audacity app alias either. AND the folder end of the dock doesn't recognize the Audacity folder! I'll bet it would take Logic...

Does the icon appear in the dock if you double-click Audacity.app in the folder you installed it into?
