Hi,
I just installed Audacity on my MacBookPro on which I have hundreds of VST Plugins as well. I want to use Audacity as an "mobile" alternative to Wavelab/Nuendo etc because I do not carry all the elicencers and iLoks with me usually. And that is the problem - every time I open Audacity I have to manually cancel, quit, close plugin-error windows for 10 minutes because the plugins are scanned by startup and of course there is no iLok connected the licences are missing.
I wanted to disable the VST plugin folder in the prefs, but I am not able to find a way to do this. In Cubase for example you can manually define VST plugin folders - so it would be easy to just type in a dummy folder without the plugins.
Is there a way to do this - beside temporary removing the plugin folder by hand in the finder?
Thanks a lot,
Brandy

Re: Excluding VST Plugins from Audacity
Go to Preferences > Effects tab and disable VST effects.
http://manual.audacityteam.org/man/Effects_Preferences
This disables all VST effects, which may not be what you want, bit it's the closest you're going to get AFAICT.

Thanks! This solves it - in addition with this (just stepped over it)

Well, unfortunately I now have NO VST plugins, that means no free ones or none of those who are not protected via ilok/dongle - but that is ok for me.
I think it would be great to have some options regarding the plugin folders!

Re: Excluding VST Plugins from Audacity
Could you perhaps just keep the free plug-ins in the Audacity "Plug-ins" folder, and when you are home, move the licensed ones to some other location Audacity also searches for VST's such as:
* /Users/<user>/Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/VST
* /Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/VST ?
Then at home it should pick up all the VST's but when elsewhere it should only pick up the free ones.

I'll add your vote for that to our "Feature Requests" system.Brandy wrote:I think it would be great to have some options regarding the plugin folders!

Re: Excluding VST Plugins from Audacity
Thanks, Gale!
I will try that - or something similar (for example just using a different folder for the protected plugins - I can change the path in Cubase/Nuendo to use both folders, Audacity will use only the default folder with the free ones then.

Thanks, great! I wish those companies who earned thousands of EUR from me, the last 10 years could react that fast - usually I am happy when the most showstopping bugs are fixed after a year or two...

It would be perfect when we are just able to define one ore more VST plugin-paths manually, having the default locations set up as.. well, defaultI'll add your vote for that to our "Feature Requests" system.
