Using a Macbook i7 with MacOSX 10.6.8 and an RME Fireface 400

I tried using v1.2 but it would not use my RME Soundcard kept getting the "Error while opening sound device. Please check the output device settings and project sample rate." message as soon as I tried to play any audio.

I have tried various combinations of sample rate in the settings but nothing seemed to work. My soundcard is running at 44.1.

The only answer I found on the forum regarding an RME suggested using v1.3 Beta. But I can't even get this to load up. It just crashes immediately. Tried re-installing twice.

The only way Audacity works is using v1.2 and the internal soundcard on the macbook. But obviously for proper monitoring this isn't that useful.

Anyone know how I can get 1.2 to work with my RME or get 1.3 to work at all??

Let's take this one step at a time. Audacity 1.2 doesn't get along with modern computers.

Unplug your sound device.

Delete the current Audacitys from /Applications. If you save the download, trash that, too.

Trash the Audacity Preferences Folder.
Go > home > Library > Application Support > audacity

Restart the Mac.

Get fresh Audacity 1.3.13 from here and install it.

Do Not Plug your sound device in.

Apple (upper left) > System Preferences > Hardware > Sound > Input > Built-In Microphone.
Launch Audacity
Audacity > Preferences > Devices > Recording > Built-In Microphone, Stereo > OK.
Restart Audacity.

Press record. You should be able to record your voice with the built-in microphone. The red recording meters will jump with your voice and the timeline will accumulate blue waves.
