Hi. I have a sound file with 16KB(.caf) and I deleted a piece of wave sound of this file. When I saved the size changed to 20KB(.caf).

I didnt change anything, I only deleted a piece of it. Any suggestion?

How are you exporting the CAF file exactly - using "Other Uncompressed Files"? If you click "Options" with "Other Uncompressed Files" selected, what does the "Encoding" say? If the file you imported is at one particular sample rate, and you exported with the project rate bottom left at a higher rate, that will make the file bigger too.

To view information about the encoding and sample rate of the original file you can open it in QuickTime and press Command -I. If you export the CAF file from Audacity with the same encoding and sample rate then it should be smaller if you cut some audio out of it.

It *is* a preset ("Default Sample Rate" in the Quality Preferences), *but* providing there are no other tracks in the project window when you import the file, the Audacity project rate should still change if necessary to reflect the rate of the file. The original rate of the file can be seen above the mute/solo buttons of that track, so you can always change the project rate to that rate if you need to.

You can't see the original encoding type of the file in Audacity, though. If the file was originally U-Law encoded (for example) and you have "Other uncompressed files" in Audacity set to export as CAF/16-bit PCM, then the file size will be doubled (or thereabouts) even if the project rate is the same as the sample rate of the original file.
