Hi,

I was looking for some help.

I host a weekly online radio show.

I use VirtualDJ 7 Pro software, a Macbook Pro, Hercules RMX MIDI and a Behringer Xenyx Mixer(which runs through the Hercules). I broadcast through VirtualDJ and have been asked to record my show for podcasts.

I have downloaded Audacity.

Can anyone tell/help me with what settings I need to adjust/change to achieve this recording. Either on VirtualDJ and/or Audacity.

Anyone's help would be greatly appreciated.

How are you broadcasting? I assume you're not going through a big metal tower on the hill? Streaming Server in the third bedroom? The DJ software seems to suggest it only works for creating a mix and then, again, I assume you're going out to a room full of dancing people?

We need to nail down your actual current job a lot more before we can decide the direction.

Myself and all staff broadcast to a radio server. It can be heard live all around the world. http://live.goonbag.com

This should really be in one of the Mac forums as the possible solutions are platform dependent.
I'll move this to the Audacity 1.3.x > Mac board.
If you have downloaded Audacity 1.2.x then (unless your computer is really old) that is the wrong version and you should upgrade to Audacity 1.3.13.

Probably the easiest way to record your show would be to use a second computer (or some other recording device) to record the audio output.

Probably an on-line or internet streaming server. "Radio" happens from the tall metal tower on the hill.

Your computer is full. Natural Macs only have two sound channels: Input and Output. If you're producing a full-on theatrical production, both of those channels are already taken leaving nothing to "capture" the show. Chances are really good if you do get a terrific capture, you won't be able to perform some job critical to the show.

You can get a switch for your house and a second computer to receive and capture the stream on the way out. That would be easy.

Does your software provide for 'output as a file' in addition to the stream?

The way many people produce streaming shows like this is post production. Do the show and "tidy it up" in editing. Stream the file later and not the live show. You can kill two birds with this process. It's amazingly handy to be able to do a production over the course of multiple hours and then clean up your mistakes before transmission. That obviously gives you an archive file of the show.

Resist the urge to archive MP3. You can't do production in MP3. It's a delivery format.

You can capture the show playing on the Mac with SoundFlower or WireTap or programs like that. That's the easiest way for force your Mac to capture internet shows or YouTube sound, but I'm betting that interferes with one of your production tools. Those programs run the Play and Record sections of your Mac at the same time and it's really easy to get recursive sound and feedback problems.

Audacity is a simple production program and likes running on simple computers, so it's completely out of your world.
