I am new to audacity which I have just downloaded onto my Mac running Lion.
The "Effects" menu is greyed out and I am unable to change speed of the playing file, whilst maintaining pitch?
Have read through the manual - but found nothing to tell me what the problem is.

Effects are only available when Audacity is stopped (not in Play, Record or Pause).

And you have to select some audio for the effect to operate on. To select the whole project click in the blank area in the Track Control Panel to the left of the waveform.
