Timer Problems

I don't have any time problems yet, but I do wonder what sorts of problems others have had. It's a given that the timer in Audacity 1.3.12 will only do one event, but past that, what could go wrong? You set the in point and the out point, OK, and go to the Tesco for milk.
I can predict one possible problem. Too may people try to make Audacity into a surveillance program and set the timer for 72 hours of continuous recording. That could be a problem, but I just want to record an hour radio show while I'm on the other side of the city -- and from a real radio, eliminating the complications of trying to snag a data stream.
Every time I see the Timer mentioned, I can sense the rolling of eyes all the way from this time zone.
Why?
