I am running OS 10.6.8, and recently downloaded audacity 1.3.13. I made a copy of a vinyl record, and exported it as an AIFF. I have tried to burn it onto a CD with no luck. The error messages are:
1.The disc can't be burned because an unexpected error occurred (error code -0x8002006E)
2.The disc can't be burned because communication between the computer and the disc drive failed (error code 0x80020022)

If you put a store-bought Music CD in the computer, does it play?

Yes it plays, though I found that the music was inaudible because the Crosley was still plugged into the computer. When I unplugged, the store-bought cd played fine.

So I tried making a cd of a song already in my computer -- I used a RW disc, just to avoid throwing out any more R discs -- and the cd recorded the song and played it.

When I again put in the R disc on which I had tried to record the new AIFF file, the disc icon didn't appear on the desktop or anywhere else, so I guess it was ruined by attempting to record this AIFF file.

I think I'm as far as I can go without you telling me everything you have. What's a Crosley, what does it do and how is it connected? What kind of Mac?

You're going through iTunes, right? You dump the WAV music into iTunes, create a playlist and then use the iTunes CD Burning tools?

You're using the Mac built-in SuperDrive, right?

I have a macbook pro running 10.6.8. The Crosley is a usb turntable. I had tried exporting as a wav file, but when that didn't work I tried an AIFF file & that didn't work either. I did not dump a WAV music into ITunes, creating a playlist and using the ITunes CD burning tools -- I inserted a cd and dragged the wav, and then the aiff file onto it & hit Burn. I guess it's more complicated than I thought.

You seem to be perfectly on top of this, just misinformed.

The iTunes tools create a delightful Music CD from your music -- either AIFF or WAV.

You should know that the limit on Music CDs is Time, not data size. Music CDs will hold 78 Minutes of very high quality music. Period. It's just shy of the 80 minutes it says on the package. Many people try to compress the music using MP3 or other internet data compression tools to get more time. What that does is give you 78 minutes of crappy, fuzzy, bubbling compressed music -- and then cuts off everything that doesn't fit.

iTunes > File > New Playlist

Drag your music from the general iTunes area into your new playlist.

File > Burn Playlist To Disk > OK the burn dialog.

ONLY THEN put a blank CD in the Mac -- when it asks you to.

Thank you so much for your help. I think I am closing in on the problem, but am not there yet.

The Audacity help line is very clear and specific. Part of my problem is conflicting directions I have read in different places, some of which I only noticed after the first failure or 2. I have not known if any of these confusions have caused my confusion, or if the problem is somewhere else.

In another place I read that I should click "Save Project" before beginning the recording, not mentioned on the Audacity help page.

In another place I read that if I'm on a mac I should save it as an AIFF. Also not mentioned on the help page.

I have done another recording following the Audacity help file very precisely, only 7 minutes long, exported it as a WAV and made a playlist of it in ITunes, and hit the burn button. It seemed to go along ok but ended with the message: "The attempt to burn a disc failed. The burn failed because of a medium write error." (I had at first started to hit "Save Project" but was warned that if I did that I would get something readable only by audacity. So I went straight to the file menu and hit Export. Was this right?)

It seems I will have to visit the Genius bar to solve this, what do you think?

I finally made a cd!!! The last complication was, I put the disc into the computer before being invited. I've always known that manners matter -- how could I have missed this? Many thanks for all you help!
