Hello,
I have a large recording saved as a AIFF file and I would like to export individual pieces as tracks, also in AIFF format, essentially just chopping up one large file. I'm comfortable with just about all aspects of the "Export Multiple" function except for the metadata aspect.
I cannot seem to get the metadata that I enter in Audacity to "embed" into the exported AIFF file. Essentially, I want to be able to burn these AIFF files onto CD and when someone else loads the CD onto their computer, let's say in iTunes, the Track Name, Artist, Album, Year etc. metadata information is retained and shows up in iTunes.
I would also be exporting the same individual pieces in MP3 format to use as a digital download version of the CD, and would also need the metadata to remain intact in that instance as well. So when another person downloads the MP3s and opens them in iTunes, all the track info is present.
How can I do this? Thanks!
Metadata in AIFF files?

Audacity 1.3.x is now obsolete. Please use the current Audacity 2.1.x version.
Mac 0S X 10.3 and earlier are no longer supported but you can download legacy versions of Audacity for those systems HERE.

Re: Metadata in AIFF files?
Metadata is not preserved when you burn a CD. However if the metadata is present in the AIF and you import it into iTunes, iTunes will recognize and use the metadata to set the Artist, Album, Title, etc. fields.

Re: Metadata in AIFF files?
Thanks, Bill. So what you are saying is when you buy a music CD and pop it into your computer and it loads the songs in iTunes, that metadata isn't being pulled from the tracks themselves, but rather the software is querying the database to recognize/find and load the info? I just want to make sure I'm understanding this clearly.
If that IS the case, then there is really no way to retain metadata in music that you create yourself and burn to CD (unless of course that information has been stored in the database as well)?

Re: Metadata in AIFF files?
CD-Text is used to store metadata on CDs. You have to add it at the burning step (if your CD-RW drive supports that). ITunes supports burning CD-Text as an option, but can only read CD-Text if you add a script to it.
