Audacity Error While Opening Sound Device

Why When I Try To Record It Freezes For About 10 Seconds And Pops Up With Somthing Saying " Error While Opening Sound Device Please Check The Output Device Settings And The Project Sample Rate " It Was Working Fine Then All Of A Sudden This Starts Happening . Can Any Body Help ?

If you're recording from a USB device, then the USB connection has probably been interrupted (which will happen if CPU usage gets too close to 100%, or if the connection is not seated firmly, or for any other reason). Reboot your computer and relaunch Audacity after allowing time for the USB device to be recognised by the operating system.

If this is not the problem, check the computer system sounds settings and check that the sound card is working.

But Thats The Thing Im Using A Laptop So I Dont Have A USB Connection Its All Built In .

So what are you trying to record? Your voice with the built in microphone?

What is the three-digit version number of Audacity are you using (Audacity > About Audacity)?

Have you changed any settings in Audacity? If you are using the current 1.3.13 Beta, try Transport > Rescan Audio Devices. Try 44100 Hz project rate bottom left of the Audacity window.

If that does not help, reset the Audacity preferences by editing audacity.cfg as described at http://manual.audacityteam.org/man/Preferences#stored .

Also try rebooting, That helps sometimes, even on Mac.

Macs are pretty simple creatures compared to the others, but we do need to have some idea of the show.

For one example, I'm recording a simple voice track for my video and I'm doing it with my MacBook Pro built-in microphone. I'm using Audacity 1.3.12 and my Mac is running OS-X 10.5.8 -- Leopard.
