This is my first time using this forum so I don't know if I'm doing this right and not looking for topic, does anyone know why my version of Audacity is freezing in mid-recording for no reason? Happens several times and without warning. Thank you for your time, help greatly appreciated.

Which version of Audacity is that?
What are you recording?

Desktop > Go > Computer > Control-Click your system drive > Get INFO.
Make sure you're not running out of hard drive space. You need at least 20% free space on a moderate size drive for audio (or video) production.

I'll have to double check which version it is but I downloaded and am using the version that I was told is the best for my Mac OS X. I know that's it's not running out of space becuase I use the computer so infrequently, plus, I constantly clean out the cache to make sure it's operating properly. I'm using Audacity to record old cassettes and vynil into wav. files.

See Audacity > About Audacity for your version. We need to know the full three-digit number.
Is it a USB turntable? If so, try removing and reattaching the USB cable, try a new or shorter cable, and plug into a spare USB port, not a USB hub.

The cache is one thing, but Audacity (and other production programs) use 'real' storage -- and a lot of it. You should go down that pathway and see what the actual storage capacity and availability is.
