Can't export to anything

I want to export my audacity file as an MP3 and I followed all the instructions (downloaded LAME, etc). When I try to export it says, "Unable to open target file for writing".

I want to export my audacity file as an MP3 and I followed all the instructions (downloaded LAME, etc). When I try to export it says, "Unable to open target file for writing".

Are you using File > Export Multiple? If so don't use "/" in the label or track names.

What three-digit version number of Audacity do you have (see Audacity > About Audacity)? If you are actually using a 1.2 version of Audacity, other non-alphabetic characters may create that error, even in File > Export. In 1.2, just use letters, numbers or underscores (_) in file names.

Whatever version you have, I suggest you use the latest 1.3.13 Beta if you are not already using it.

If problems persist, try exporting to your Desktop or any other space you have permission to write to. Also try:

* Edit > Select All
* Edit > Copy
* File > New to open a new project
* Edit > Paste

then export from the new project.
